What does a background check report include?

Background check reports can contain information ranging from simple identity verification to comprehensive data on criminal history, employment, education, driving history, and other personal characteristics. Background Research Inc. can create packages that meet your unique needs and compile all searches onto one seamless report.

How do background screening companies ensure the accuracy of reports?

Section 607(b) of the Fair Credit Reporting Act requires CRAs to “follow reasonable procedures to assure maximum possible accuracy”. Background Research Inc. individually reviews any potential “hits” for accuracy prior to reporting.

How long should it take for a background investigation to be completed?

Turn around times (TATs) all depend upon the type of searches you request. Some states offer resources that produce same-day results. Others take additional time to search for records, verify, and return their findings. Typically, one to five business days are normal for a completed report.

Do job applicants have any rights concerning the background check?

Yes. The FCRA requires that people who consent to a background check be given a document that describes their rights titled “A Summary of Your Rights Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.” This document states that the job applicants have a right to know if information in the consumer report has been used against them. It explains how a person can get a free copy of their report, dispute the findings of the consumer report, and act against agencies that violate the FCRA. What do we do if the candidate insists that the information contained in the background report is not accurate?

If the candidate is denied employment due solely to the negative background check, the candidate should be given an opportunity to dispute the information and prove that it is incorrect. The employer must follow the FCRA adverse action regulations before denying employment.

What is the relationship between Background Research Inc. and the employer requesting the background verification? Does the background verification mean I am hired?

The background verification is a key milestone to helping candidates get hired. Employers engage Background Research Inc. to conduct background verifications and consumer reports. Please note that Background Research Inc. does not make the hiring decision and cannot provide you with details as to the reasoning behind your prospective employer’s hiring decision. For the status of your candidacy for employment, you should contact the hiring company directly.
